Habiganj Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Baset said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had announced the agricultural revolution by emphasizing on the agricultural development of the country. First class status was given to agriculturists. Under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, agriculturalists have played an important role in increasing food production. As a result, Bangladesh has become self-sufficient in food.
He also said that Habiganj Agricultural University will play a role in the implementation of Vision 2041 announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by conducting necessary research programs for safe food production.
On Monday, October 16 at 12 noon, the Vice-Chancellor was speaking as the chief guest at the round table discussion organized at the Habiganj Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor’s conference room on the occasion of World Food Day.
A round table discussion was held on the theme of this year’s World Food Day, ‘Water is life, water is food, no one will be left behind’.
Dr Md Abubakar Siddique, Assistant Professor of Crop Botany, moderated the round table discussion. Dr Arun Chandra Barman, Associate Professor of Oceanography and Blue Economic Department and Iftekhar Ahmed Fagun, Lecturer of Aquatic Resources Management and Conservation Department spoke on the topic of ‘Increasing fish production and research in Bangladesh’ from the Faculty of Fisheries. ‘Role of water in agricultural development and food grain production’ was discussed by Dr Zakaria Choudhury Anik, lecturer of horticulture department and M Habibullah Siddiqui, lecturer of soil science department. Apart from this, Dr Salauddin Yusup, lecturer of Anatomy and Histology Department and Dr Rahima Akhter Deepa, lecturer of Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology Department, discussed the issue of ‘Role of water in livestock development’.
Deputy Registrar of Habiganj Agricultural University agriculturist Md Sadekuzzaman also spoke.
