Staff Reporter: Director General (Additional Secretary) Md Hafizur Rahman of Trade Organizations Division of the Ministry of Commerce said that business is like the blood flow of a country. Just as the body is immobile without blood flow, so is the economy of the country without business. And for the development of business and trade and the protection of the rights of traders, the need for trade organizations is immense. Therefore, it is in the interest of the trade organizations that the trade organization section has been restructured and the new Trade Organization Act 2022 has been formulated.
He also said that currently more scrutiny is done in granting TO licenses to new organizations or groups. Licenses are now also granted after determining whether the organization has a need at all.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry leaders’ exchange meeting with the officials of the Trade Organization Division of the Ministry of Commerce at the Sylhet Chamber Auditorium on Monday morning. Tarafdar Sohel Rahman, deputy secretary of trade organization-1 branch, was the special guest in the meeting. Sylhet Chamber President and FBCCI Director Tahmin Ahmad presided.
The Director General assured all cooperation in resolving the issues raised by various trade group leaders.
In the exchange meeting, special guest Deputy Secretary Tarafdar Sohel Rahman presented a pictorial report about the various activities of the Trade Organizations Division and the new Trade Organizations Act 2022.
Speaking at the meeting, President Tahmin Ahmad said that since its establishment in 1966, the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been working for the development of Sylhet’s business and trade, protecting the interests of businessmen, creating new entrepreneurs in business and trade, and developing tourism, industry and export sectors. It also works as an assistant to the government in formulating and implementing policies related to trade and investment.
He raised various demands including abolition of obligation to file returns of trade organizations as non-profit organizations, establishment of Farms branch office of Joint Stock Companies in Sylhet and allotment of land for construction of Sylhet Chamber building on a large scale.
